Melbourne’s CyberRisk brings BlackBerry Cylance to Reece Group
Melbourne-based security consultant CyberRisk has scored a consulting gig with Australian plumbing and bathroom supplies distributor Reece Group.
The deal centres around Reece’s adoption of BlackBerry Cylance’s platform, with Cyber Risk advising on tuning in best operational practices, developing the zones and policies before deployment, and contributing to the development of a proof of concept.
CyberRisk director Leong Wang told CRN that the company took the opportunity to introduce Reece to Cylance after the distributor put up an expression of interest (EOI) after its existing antivirus solution was up for renewal.
“The legacy [antivirus] was up for renewal and leading up to that, [Reece] ran the EOI, a proof of concept and proof of value leading up to that point, and made a decision with another month up Reece’s sleeve to actually start deploying before the other products expired,” Wang said.
Wang admitted Reece did not necessarily have many issues with the legacy antivirus, Symantec, as malware wasn’t a regular problem compared to other organisations.
“Cylance wasn’t necessarily solving any problems, but it was more that Reece was looking to the future,” Wang said. “The company evaluated three vendors against a testing criteria and systematically tested the products and Cylance came out on top of that.”
On Reece’s end, Wang added that the IT team no longer has to worry about “mundane” operational activity due to Cylance being cloud-based, including patching the servers that ran the Symantec solution as well as having to push out regular updates.
